Matthew Sherwood Pearce

Matthew Sherwood Pearce, 37, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Mr. Pearce was born in Lexington, SC, a son of Elizabeth Abernathy Pearce and the late George Michael Pearce.He was a teacher at Alfred Rush Academy.Mr. Pearce was named Teacher Of The Year twice during his career and was a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee of Florence School District 1. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Megan Ellen Mehaffy Pearce, and sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Drake (Mark) of Cary, NC. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Nancy Guy Pearce of Cheraw, SC and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Abernathy of Gaffney, SC. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, February 6, 2016, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel in Florence. Family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551.
