MARY VIRGINIA BARNIO SMITH Florence, SC Mary Smith, 88, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Brunson Barnio and Janie Turner Barnio.She retired from Marlowe Manufacturing Outlet and was a member of Gospel Temple.Mrs. Smith loved flowers and gardening. She is preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Isaac D. Smith; two brothers, Preston Burris and Oscar Barnio; and three sisters, Bell Moore, Kathleen Wild and Annie Mae Hatchell. Surviving are her children, Christine (Grady) Tippit and Jean Smith, both of Florence; two grandchildren, Lisa Tippit Cusack and Andy (Melissa) Tippit, both of Florence; four great-grandchildren, Ashley (Rod) Cusack Hanna, Brandon Cusack, Chrissy Cusack and Kellen Tippit, all of Florence;two great-great granddaughters; a brother, James (Violet) Barnio of Evergreen; two sisters, Louise Weatherford and Alma Poston, both of Florence;a number of nieces and nephews; and special adopted family, Christopher and Jonathan DuBose. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Truth Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1400 West Evans Street, Florence, SC 29501. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
