Mary Tuten Smith, 89, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, after a brief illness.Born June 21, 1931, in Furman, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Lamar and Virginia Rosella DeLoach Tuten and the widow of Joseph Edsel “Ed” Smith, Sr. Mary devoted her life to her family.She and Ed were blessed with 69 years of marriage.She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fiercely.Mary was a faithful member of Mizpah Baptist Church, where she served as the Bible School nursery coordinator for over 20 years.She was a member of the Tallulah Richardson Sunday School Class and was a former piano player for the church.Her hobbies included spending time with family, tending to her beloved dogs, fishing, and her special card ministry.She also enjoyed volunteering at The Leatherman Center, providing Meals On Wheels for those in need, and spending time with her very special friend, Sylvia Boswell. Mary is survived by her children, Ginger (Billy) McLeod of Florence, Joseph E. “Joey” (Pam) Smith, Jr., of Mobile, Alabama, Michael (Melanie) Smith of Florence; her grandchildren, Will (Ashlee) McLeod, Amber (Matt) Glaz, Kellie (Ray) Brown, April Smith, Jamie (Jebb) McMillan, Kody Wiggins, Hannah Smith, Les Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Roston, Peyton, Riley, Pryce, Haedyn, Easton, Bayleigh, Piper, Scarlett, Gray, and Smith.She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Ruth Tuten and Marion Lamar Tuten. A graveside service will be held at Mizpah Cemetery, 2230 N. Williston Rd., Florence, SC, on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 2:00pm.The family is being served by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mizpah Cemetery Maintenance Fund at 233 N. Price Road, Florence, South Carolina 29506. Due to Covid-19, social distancing will be observed.
