MARVIN “RAY” ELLIS FLORENCE, SC Marvin Ray Ellis, 63, of Florence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2016 after a sudden illness. Mr. Ellis was born in Florence, SC, a son of Elizabeth Stokes Ellis and the late Millard Alden Ellis, Jr.He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1975 and was owner and operator of Ellis Sand and Gravel.He was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class at St. Paul United Methodist Church.Among the activities that brought him joy included: being on the water, fishing, spending time with his dogs, and cooking for friends and family.Most would say he never met a stranger and had a generous, caring spirit. He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved Jack Russell named Fludd. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Rosemary Waddell Ellis of Florence; son, C. Tyler (Meredith) Ellis, M.D. of Chapel Hill, NC; daughter, Caroline Elizabeth Ellis of Florence; his mother of Florence; brothers, Randy (Helan) Ellis and Charlie (Libby) Ellis, both of Florence; sisters, Delores (Rick) Nash of Blythwood, SC and Marcia Moody of Florence and the newest love of his life, his grandson, Pierce Millard Ellis of Chapel Hill, NC. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1629 West Palmetto Street, Florence, SC 29501 or to the Florence Area Humane Society, P. O. Box 4808, Florence, SC29502. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in the St. Paul United Methodist Church Family Life Center with the family receiving friends from 1 – 2 PM in the Life Center prior to the service.
