Marion Gilbert Murphy Florence, SC Marion Gilbert Murphy, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. Mr. Murphy was born in Wilmington, NC, son of the late A. G. and Bessie Jane Dew Murphy. He retired from the Army National Guard.He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, member of the local V.F.W. and a member of Loyal Order of The Moose. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters and by a son, Ronald D. Murphy. Surviving are his loving wife of 15 years, Mary Powell Murphy of Florence; daughter, Sally Murphy (Richard) Hardee of Florence; step-children, Martin R. Hutchinson and Edward (Maria) Hutchinson both of Florence, Jackie (Terrill) McKissick of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Paul (Jodi) Hardee, Kip (Angela) Myers and Joshua Dennis Murphy; step-grandchildren, Marty Hutchinson, Ken Hutchinson and Amy H. Best (Jimmy) of Florence; great-grandchildren, Kayla, McKinley, Peyton and Callie Hardee and Luke and Lorelei Myers; step-great-grandchildren, Lexi and Austin Best of Florence. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of Tri County, 960 Pamplico Highway, Florence, SC29505. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 23, 2013 at Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Burial will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence following the service. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Martin Hutchinson and Tina Hudson for being the primary caretakers of Marion and to the doctors, staff and chaplains of the Hospice Care of Tri County, especially Sharon Shelley for her care and kindness during this difficult time.
