Marika Papadopoulos Kotsoglou, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Heritage Home of Florence.The Trisagion Service will be held in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel, 2402 S. Irby St., Florence, SC at 6:00 PM on Sunday October 3, 2010, with visitation to follow service. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, 2990 S. Cashua Dr., Florence, SC, at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Athanasios Haros officiating.Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens, 3320 S. Cashua Dr., Florence, SC. Marika was born in Istanbul Turkey, the daughter of the late Leonidas and Vasiliki Papadopoulos and grew up there attending parochial schools.She learned several languages and retained the knowledge of them in her adulthood.In fact, when she and her husband moved to Toronto, Canada, in the 60’s, she worked for the Canadian Government as a translator and interpreter for foreign immigrants coming into Canada.She also worked for a major fashion magazine. In 1971, with the help of the late US Rep. John McMillan and La-Z-Boy Chair Company, she and her husband moved to Florence, where La-Z-Boy employed her husband as a Master Tool and Dye Maker.She was a homemaker who loved reading and making intricate needlework.Due to her declining health, she has been a resident of the Heritage Home for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stavros George Kotsoglou; a sister, Katherine Vasiliades; and a nephew, Alki Vasiliades. Surviving are a nephew, Michael (Marika) Vasiliades of Athens, Greece; a cousin, Sophia Costas of Florence; great-cousins Crystal (John) Hanna Jr., and Lex (Kimberly) Costas, Jr. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, 2990 S. Cashua Drive, Florence, SC.
