Margaret Gray Massengill

December 20, 1993 — April 8, 2021

Once upon a time, there was a little girl born to ecstatic parents on a cold, winter day in Dayton, Ohio. All the nurses said she was the most beautiful child in the nursery with her head full of dark hair and piercing eyes. The parents took her home where she grew into a precocious toddler who soaked up knowledge and developed a sweetness that shone from within. She eagerly attended schools in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Florence, South Carolina where she continued to blossom into a caring activist with a strong need to right the wrongs of this world. She loved all animals and especially her Sadie and Lucy. She easily made friends everywhere with many commenting on her “killer smile.”Pretty as she was, she was even more beautiful on the inside.Injustice and ill-treatment of anyone was unacceptable period. This social warrior tried to teach everyone that material things were not important. She said many times “let’s not exchange gifts.Instead let’s have experiences.”A brief sojourn to Brazil to work at an AIDS Clinic and Orphanage was just one example of these experiences. And experiences she gave us all. This little girl was Margaret (Maggie) Gray Massengill of Florence, South Carolina. She was born December 20, 1993 and left this life way too soon on April 8, 2021. She leaves behind her mother, Kim Massengill of Florence; grandmothers; a grandfather; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends across the world who will never forget how special she was. She was preceded by her father, Nathan Massengill. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Florence Area Humane Society, PO Box, 4808, Florence. SC 29502 where she volunteered. A Celebration of Maggie’s life may be planned at a later date.Details will be published.
