Dr. Margaret Eugenia “Genie” Lee (62) passed away July 13, 2017 in Florence, SC. Dr. Genie Lee was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Frank Barnwell Lee, Sr. and beloved mother to Andrew Edward Rhea (Tori), Anna Lee Rhea, and the late William Robert Rhea.Dr. Lee graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and went on to attend the Medical University of South Carolina to receive her doctorate in dentistry. After practicing dentistry for one year, she returned to the Medical University of South Carolina and graduated as a Doctor of Medicine.She then went on to complete her residency in Radiology in Dallas, Texas and Denver, Colorado.She spent many years of her career devoted to Florence General, Carolinas Hospital, and Florence MRI and Imaging as a Radiologist. Dr. Lee was a remarkable woman with a selfless spirit and love of all creatures great and small.Her empathy and compassion for others defined her as a physician, friend and mother. Her strength and outlook on life was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. In addition to her son and daughter, she is survived by: her brother Dr. Frank Barnwell Lee, Jr, (Margaret), Mrs. Edward Lee (Toni); her nieces Elizabeth Alcyone Lee and Caroline Lee Richards (R.K.); her nephews Frank Barnwell Lee, III, Edward Griffin Lee (Sarah Elizabeth), and Davis McCravy Lee; her great-niece Alcyone Heyward Lee; and her great-nephew Edward Griffin Lee, Jr.She was the sister to the late Dr. Edward McCravy Lee. Family will receive guests at her home from 5-7 pm on Saturday, July 15, 2017. A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on 700 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC at 3 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2017, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The burial will be at Lee Cemetery in Scranton, SC following the service. Donations in her memory can be made to First Presbyterian Church, the Florence Humane Society, Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School, and Pee Dee Land Trust.
