Margaret McDaniel Joye, 88, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Mrs. Joye was born on October 3, 1927, in Johnsonville, SC, a daughter of the late Hamp “Buck” McDaniel and Annie Geneva Bellflowers McDaniel. She graduated from Johnsonville High School Class of 1945 and from the Florence Beauty Academy. She was a registered cosmetologist and instructor.Mrs. Joye owned and operated a beauty salon for twelve years.After completing her teacher’s certification from several institutions, she taught cosmetology for twenty-one years in the Florence School District One.Following her retirement, she taught art classes and did commissioned art work out of her studio.She was student of the Washington School of Art & had private studies with noted artists.Mrs. Joye was a member of Truth Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, a past director of L.I.F.E. Ministries, a former teacher of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and was active in the Prayer and Banner Ministries.She was a charter member and organizer of the South Carolina Association of Cosmetology Teachers in Vocational Education (S.C.A.C.T.I.V.E.) and served three terms as vice-president.Mrs. Joye helped revise the V_TECS Catalog for S. C. Vocational Curriculum and served on the committee to review V-TECSA Guide for Cosmetology.She was voted Teacher of the Year in 1982, 1987 and 1988 at the Florence Area Vocational Center. Surviving are her son, Howard Anthony (Beverly) Joye of Matthews, NC; grandson, William Wade (Ferris) Joye of Matthews, NC; three great-granddaughters, Liana Hope, Adleigh Grace and Sydney Elizabeth Joye; a sister, Lula M. Lewis of Hemingway, SC and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Tommie Joye, two infant babies and two sisters, Lucille M. Calcutt of Cayce, SC and Eva M. Jones of Fort Myers, FL. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow at the New Old Johnsonville Cemetery.
