Lenora “Lucy” Hewitt Altman, 72, of Florence, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2014, at a local hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Altman was born in Florence, the daughter of the late Heyward C. Hewitt and Blanche Sellars Hewitt.She graduated from McClenaghan High School and attended the Nursing Program at McLeod Infirmary.She was a lifelong member of Amanda Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, worked with the youth and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.Mrs. Altman retired from Administration in the dietary department of Carolinas Hospital Systems and was affectionately known as “Miss Lucy”.She also worked for a number of years in banking management with Security Federal.Mrs. Altman loved people and had an infectious sense of humor which she shared with us all.She was an accomplished seamstress at a young age, loved writing and was a wonderful storyteller. Lucy’s life revolved around her girls and her grandchildren as they were her pride and joy.She lived her life always giving to others and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. Surviving are her daughters, Dana (Kent) Poston of Lynchburg and Celeste (Jack) Bryant of Orangeburg; her grandchildren, Katelyn Celeste Poston, C. Thomas Poston and Sellars Altman Bryant; her brother, Thomas (Charlene) Hewitt of Florence; and her nephews, Michael (Vickie) Hewitt and Steven (Jeanette Lee) Hewitt.She is also survived by the father of her children, C. Larry (Mary) Altman of Lynchburg. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Burial will follow at Hewitt Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home prior to the service and at other times at the home of Dana and Kent Poston.
