Lloyd E. Starr

Lloyd E. Starr, Sr., 87, of Florence, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Grand Strand Medical Center. Mr. Starr was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, a son of the late Noah Starr and Dolly Simmons Starr. He graduated from Francis Marion University with a degree in Childhood Education and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.Mr. Starr was a retired veteran from the US Air Force and also served in the Marine Corps. He was the first recipient of the S. C. Governor’s Volunteer Award for his work with Timrod Elementary School as a tutor.Mr. Starr loved to camp, fish and eat at Hardee’s and Lizard’s Thicket. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his seven siblings. Mr. Starr is survived by his wife, Yvonne Moore Causey Starr; his children, Lloyd E. Starr, Jr. (Pam) and Avis Lynn Wainright (Mike) and their mother, Avis Petrotta (George), Diane Causey Matuse, David Causey (Marcia) and Samuel D. Starr (Rachel); grandchildren, Christina Anthony, J. Lloyd Starr (Monica), Brent Starr and Noah Starr; and great-grandchildren, Owen Starr and Bethany Starr. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon on Friday at the funeral home.
