Lillian Elaine Armstrong-South Florence, SC Lillian Elaine Armstrong-South, passed away on Saturday, August 08, 2015 at McLeod Hospice House, after a long illness. She was a native of Hyde County in eastern North Carolina.Her ancestors, the legendary Baum family, were early settlers of the Outer Banks Region.She is survived by her husband Bill, whom she married over 63 years ago, at the Base Chapel at Hunter AFB in Savannah.They were a career Air Force family and transferred to the San Francisco Bay Area in California during the mid-1960’s. Lillian had a long career as a senior product planner at Signetics/Philips Electronics Co. in Sunnyvale, California, and retired in 1994.She and Bill moved to Florence in 1995 to be near Bill’s father, M.L. South, who was nearing 100 years old.In the late 90’s, they formed GeeChee Productions and GeeChee Publishing Co. in Florence, to publish their best-selling book “Growing Up In Pooler”.The book, released in 2003, has become a collector’s item.Lillian was President and CEO of the GeeChee Companies.She and her husband produced several historical documentaries about family life in the Deep South. Lil, as she was affectionately known, is survived by her husband Bill; two sons, Bill J. South, Jr. (and wife Terri) of Madera, Calif., Rick (and wife Lisa) of Santa Clara, Calif.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Kane and Kelsey South; three grandsons, Joseph, Jeremy and Aaron; four great-granddaughters, Mia and Mylee South, and Ava and Sophie Kane, all of California.She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dot Green of Florence. A memorial service and celebration of her life starts at 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home at 2402 S. Irby St., Florence.A memorial service will be held later at Bryan Funeral Home in Swan Quarter, N.C.Interment will be in Fairfield Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY10016, www.kidney.org/donate.
