Lewis B. Lyerly, 71, of Florence, SC, died Friday, April 29, 2016, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 28, 1945 in Florence, a son of the late William Albert and Dorla Purvis Lyerly. At the age of 27, Lewis walked through the doors of Florence Church of God of Prophecy, made his way to the altar, and gave his life to God. As a faithful member of the Church for 44 years, he served as an altar worker, deacon, teacher, and superintendent. Devoted to God, he loved the Lord, was a prayer warrior, and cherished his family. As the owner and operator of Lyerly’s Market for 38 years, he touched many lives. He enjoyed seeing and talking with customers and loved the people of the community. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jeffords Lyerly of Florence, SC; sons, Lewis W. Lyerly, Chad (Jessica) Lyerly, and Bryan (Michele) Lyerly, all of Florence; a brother James A. (Elma) Lyerly of Abbeville, SC; sisters, Sally (Carl) Johannes of San Antonio, TX, Bertha McLaughlin of Darlington, SC and Margaret Houck of N. Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Ryan and Blake Lyerly of Florence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Lyerly. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Florence Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 PM at the church prior to the service.
