Leola Hicks Turner

LEOLA HICKS TURNER, 86, of Pamplico, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 in McLeod Hospice House after an illness. Mrs. Turner was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Stanley and Florrie Stone Hicks. She was the oldest member of Prospect United Methodist Church and was proud to be the Matriarch of her church. She was a member of the Prospect UMW and was an avid baker. She devoted her life to loving and caring for her family. Surviving are her children; Sybil Turner Locklair of Pamplico, Willa Jean (Claude) Singletary of Scranton, Marion (Annette) Turner of Pamplico, Kathy (Ken) Moore of Scranton,O’Neal (Merlene) McKissick of Cayce, SC and Burnette (Jennifer) McKissick of Gadsden, SC; Special Family Friends, Lacy and Jean Saunders of Pamplico; 10 grandchildren, Lisa Ramos, Scott Locklair, Warren Locklair, Brad Singletary, Brian Singletary, Jason Singletary, Tamera Tisdale, Dave Turner, Brooks Moore and Liza Thackrey; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Dewey (Fumi) Hicks, Aaron Hicks, Thomas (Cindy) Hicks, Gerald (Annette) Hicks, Legrande (Ann) Hicks, Ronald (Madelyn) Hicks, and Wayne (Polly) Hicks, and over 100 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Doll Turner, who passed away on Sept. 10, 1992, with whom she would have celebrated 71 years of marriage on April 30, 2014; her son, David Richard Turner, and her brothers, Gene Hicks, Alvis Hicks, Julian Hicks, Herman Hicks and Joseph Hicks. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday March 30, 2014 at Prospect United Methodist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30-8:30 PM at the funeral home.
