Laurie Hilton Barefoot, Jr., age 82, passed away on August 17, 2015, at Heritage Home of Florence, after a long illness. Mr. Barefoot was born in Florence, the son of the late Laurie Hilton Barefoot, Sr. and Ethel R. Barefoot.He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.He graduated from McClenaghan High School and attended the University of South Carolina.He worked for the railroad as a Conductor for 40 years, having retired from CSX in 1995.He remained active in the Retired Railroad Men’s Club, serving as its President for a time.Mr. Barefoot was lifetime member of Central United Methodist Church.During his later years, and before his illness, he thoroughly enjoyed attending the Junior Senior group activities, as well as the Methodist Men meetings.Mr. Barefoot’s favorite hobbies were fishing and boating in general.He spent many days at the family house and on the lake at WybooCreek at Lake Marion.In his later years, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Sara D. Barefoot; daughter Sandra B. Willis (Glynn) of Florence, SC; son Walter H. Barefoot (Anja) of Florence, SC; sisters Linda B. Rogers (Barden) of Timmonsville, SC; Gwynne B. Windham (Rudy) of Timmonsville, SC, as well as three grandchildren, Lauren Willis, Joshua Barefoot, and Lydia Barefoot.He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be held at Central United Methodist Church at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.Visitation with the family will be held in the Commons Area at the church prior to the funeral service from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
