Larry Nettles

It is with profound love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Nettles, a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and friend.

His life was one of love, devotion, service and the countless little moments that made him so very special to those who knew him.

A proud Vietnam veteran, he answered his call of duty and served his country with honor. His commitment to serving others continued throughout his life, including more than 40 years as an optician, where he dedicated himself to helping others see the world a little more clearly.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Martha, for 58 years. Together they built a life filled with love, memories, and family, though she preceded him in death, the love they shared will forever remain part of his story.

To his daughter he was the best daddy she could have asked for. He worked hard to give her the best life he could, always putting her happiness and well being close to his heart.

To his grandson he was the best papa, their bond was one of a kind, built on love, laughter, and memories. He loved nothing more than going “loafing” with his grandson as he would say.

Larry was an avid fisherman, he found some of his greatest joy on the water, especially when he could share those moments with his grandson.

He was blessed with a son-in-law that he shared a bond built on love, respect, and countless laughs.

He was a member of Evergreen Baptist church where he loved his church family.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy (Jay) Cagle; grandson, Rivers Nettles Cagle; granddaughter, Katie (Jackson) Cagle Hicks; great grandson, Jack Cagle Hicks; sisters, Hazel Driggers, Martha Reeves, Teresa Cusaac, Christine Ard, Ernestine Nettles, and Janine Nettles; brothers, Gerald Nettles and Bill Nettles; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Nettles; mother, Annie Bell Nettles; father, Lewis Nettles Sr.; brothers, Randy Nettles and Lewis Nettles Jr.

He was a man who loved deeply, worked hard and gave so much of himself to the people who mattered most. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled but the love will live on in our hearts forever.

Rest easy, your work here is done.

A graveside service will be held at Florence National Cemetery on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
