Kenneth “Papa” Strickland, 83, of Florence, SC, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015. Mr. Strickland was born in Olanta, SC, a son of the late Harvey R. Strickland and Agnes Revell Strickland.He retired after working for 44 years with Sealtest, Flavorich and PET.Mr. Strickland was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 34 years and a long-time coach, Vice-President, President, and was one of the Founders of Tara Village Baseball.He helped start Lynches River Scenic Council and was a recipient of their Conservation Award by Governor Jim Hodges in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Joyce C. Strickland; sons, Kenny (Carla) Strickland of Timmonsville and Gene Strickland of Scranton; step-son, Roger (Debbie) Peek of Lamar; grandchildren, Joshua(Michelle) Strickland, Katlin Strickland, Nicole Strickland and Rebecca Strickland; great-grandchild, Sophia Strickland; brother, Fredis (Judy) Strickland of Scranton; sister, Betty Hancock of Scranton; his Bojangles “world problem solvers”; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shelvia Jean Strickland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, P. O.
