Kenneth "Ken" Eugene Brown

Kenneth Eugene Brown (Ken), 88, died on Friday, November 23, 2018, in Florence, SC. Mr. Brown was born on May 26, 1930, in Haleyville, Alabama, to William Royal Brown and Mae Lester Brown.His family moved back to the upstate when he was 6 years old, and he grew up on the family farm at Callison, near Greenwood, SC. He loved the Marine Corps and joined at an early age.He served 3 years, joined the reserves, and was called back when the Korean War started.While serving in combat he was wounded twice.He was a life member of the V.F.W. and the Purple Heart Chapter 1890. He was married to his loving and devoted wife, Gloria Fralix Brown, for 64 years.They moved to Florence in 1964 where they raised their three children.He retired from Western Electric after 30 years and then worked for other telephone related companies several more years.He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and served as president of the Christian Family Sunday School Class. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife and children:Wanda B. Lewis (Jerry) of Lugoff; Michael E. Brown (Terri) of Florence; Gary W. Brown (Missy) of Florence, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Neil J. Brown (Willa), and numerous nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by a brother, Hugh D. Brown. A memorial service will be held in the Ingram Chapel of Central UMC on Sunday, November 25, at 2:00 pm.The family will receive friends after the service in the Commons Area of the church. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
