Keith Gilbert, a beloved son and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18th, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and countless people who will forever cherish his smile, his laughter, and his unmistakable sense of humor.
From a young age, Keith had a love for baseball and basketball. His love for the outdoors grew into a lifelong passion for fishing. There was something special about being on the water, enjoying the quiet, the outdoors, and the simple pleasure of waiting for that next bite.
But those who knew Keith will remember him for much more than the things he loved. They will remember the way he could light up a room with his smile, the sound of his laughter, and the way his humor could bring joy even during difficult times. He never seemed to take life too seriously and had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease. Keith was the kind of person whose presence made a difference. He created memories through the every day moments. Those memories will now become treasured pieces of his legacy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Keith Gilbert.
Surviving is his beloved mother, Ann Atkinson, the light of his life and one of the people he cherished most in this world. He also leaves behind a stepfather, Glynn Atkinson, who was never simply a stepfather, but a father in every way that mattered. Also surviving, his companion, Teri Coleman. Keith leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will miss his laughter, his stories, and the unique spirit that made him who he was.
The family will receive friends and family Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Darlington County Humane Society, 580 Washington Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550.
