Kathy Lynn Jarvis Maddy

July 17, 1956 — April 29, 2025

Kathy Lynn Jarvis Maddy passed away on April 29, 2025 in Florence, SC, surrounded by her family and friends after battling a long illness. She was born on July 17, 1956, in Lexington, NC, to Floyd Jackson Jarvis and Dorothy Gallimore Jarvis. In the 68 years that Kathy lived on this earth, she embodied the qualities of kindness and generosity that so many loved and admired.

Kathy was a devoted wife to her husband, Kenna Frank Maddy, with whom she shared 49 beautiful years of marriage. Due to a work related accident 27 years ago that left Ken with a traumatic brain injury, she spent over half of her married life faithfully caring and loving him through all the challenges. Their marriage was a testament of true love, commitment, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with family, laughter, and cherished memories. Kathy was a loving mother to her daughters, Jennifer Maddy (Ryan) Caudill and Lisa Maddy (Trevor) Tisdale, who strive to carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. Her four granddaughters—Madison (Madi) Ruth Caudill, Emma Allison Caudill, Isabel (Izzi) Kathryn Caudill, and Hallie Elise Tisdale—were a source of immense joy and pride in her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Thomas Christopher Jarvis, Ronald Eugene Jarvis, Roger Keith Jarvis and Sandy Jarvis Kearns. Kathy’s family ties were strong, and she remained close to her surviving siblings: Robert Neil (Pat) Jarvis, Richard Dale (Barbara) Jarvis, Becky Jarvis (Johnny) Cornatzer, and Carolyn Jarvis (Steve) Hanes. She cherished every moment spent with them.

Kathy was a devoted Christian that gladly shared her faith in Jesus Christ with others. She was an active member of the Florence Baptist Temple, where she faithfully dedicated close to 40 years teaching Sunday School with the precious kindergarteners that she loved dearly. She had a strong passion for nurturing and educating young children about her Lord and Savior. In addition to her role in her church, Kathy demonstrated her creativity and dedication through her employment as a talented florist and a physical therapist aide, where she touched the lives of many with her caring nature.

Being outdoors and enjoying God’s beautiful creation was one of Kathy’s favorite past times. She found joy in tending to her flowers, bird watching, and hunting for seashells on the beach.

Those who knew Kathy will remember her as a gentle soul, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Even far into her sickness when she was left with very limited mobility, she would often ask, “What can I do to help?” Friends and family have shared countless stories who have experienced her sacrificial love and gift to uplift those around her. Kathy was more than just a mother and grandmother; she was a friend, a confidante, and a true picture of strength and grace.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Tuesday, May 6, at the Florence Baptist Temple with funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow the funeral service at Florence Memorial Gardens in the Veterans Garden directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
