Josephine “Jo” Pierce Campbell, 95, widow of Carl G. “Jerry” Campbell, died on February 1, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House.Mrs. Campbell was born in Hallsboro, N.C. to the late Weldon and Retha Pope Pierce.She graduated from Hallsboro High School and attended Campbell College, where she earned a Business Education Degree. Her first job was at the N.C. Shipbuilding Company during World War II and she continued her secretarial and bookkeeping work until retirement. The Campbells moved to Florence in 1950, and Jo moved to the Independent Living Community at Bethea in 2009.There she enjoyed fellowship with some old friends and new ones alike.She was an active member of First Baptist Church until recently moving her membership to Bethea Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Carla White of Florence; one son, Carl G. “Jay” Campbell, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Florence; five grandchildren, Heather Bryant (Kevin), Pierce Campbell (Helen), Benton Campbell (Carnes), Gene Campbell (Elizabeth), Mary Amanda Shumpert (Stokes), ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Services will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Bethea Baptist Church with Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home assisting.The family will greet friends briefly after the service, followed by a private burial at Mt.
