Joseph “Jay” Anthony Falcone, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, May 22nd at McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness. His wife of 54 years, Georgette C. Falcone was by his side as he peacefully exhaled his final breath. Jay was the son of the late Joseph “Joe” Anthony Falcone, Sr. and the late Ceceilia “Ceil” D. Falcone. He was born on January 4, 1940, in Norwich, Connecticut. He attended Windham High School in Willimantic, CT, where his life-long love of music was on display as a jazz trumpeter. He was also a member of the golf team – another life-long passion. He served in the National Guard until 1968 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jay married Georgette in July 1964 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willimantic.They moved to Florence, South Carolina in 1972, where he worked for Electro-Motive. His father, late brother Bobby, and he eventually founded F. W. Capacitors, where he worked until his retirement. Jay is the beloved father of Gina Falcone-Rupp (Oliver) and Kay Turner (John). His daughters fondly remember many games of catch in the backyard and the many years he coached softball in the Florence Girls Softball League at Friendship Park, parent-child golf tournaments at the Florence Country Club, his fashion advice that “all blues match,” and his uncanny ability to correctly guess the item inside his wrapped Christmas present.Jay liked to build and fly model airplanes, was an avid bowler, a graceful dancer, and an enthusiast for barbershop chorus music – performing with the Florence Harmony Chorus, General Assembly in Raleigh, N.C., and the Columbia Harmony Chorus.He was a 34-year member of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America). Jay is survived by his wife and daughters, grandchildren – Lindsey, Jeremy, Ian, and Thomas, his brother Michael (Phylis), sister-in-law Gail Crews (Marshall), nieces Stacey, Julie, Tammy, Angela and nephews Robbie, Brian, Brandon, and Jason. A wake will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 6 p.m. at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church.Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
