JOHNNY ROGERS, JR. Winston-Salem, NC Johnny Rogers, Jr., 70, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. He was born in Florence, SC a son of the late Johnny Rogers and Elizabeth Price Rogers.He graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1964 and served in the US Air Force from 1964 – 1968.He worked as a certified, registered and licensed respiratory therapist during a forty year career including the US Air Force, Jess Parrish Memorial Hospital, Titusville, FL 1968 – 1971, Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, FL 1971 – 1974, McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC 1975 -1982, Mullins Hospital, Mullins, SC 1982 – 1986, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC 1986 – 1996, Forsythe Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC until his retirement in December 2005. He had over 60 poems published in over 20 anthologies from 1990 – 1995.He donated copies of most of those anthologies to Francis Marion University over the years.Johnny also had two songs that he wrote recorded by two different recording artists in Nashville, TN in 1995 and 1996.From 1999 until 2011 he worked as a flea market vendor and retailer at Cooks Flea Market in Winston-Salem. His favorite memories are of growing up in Florence, SC with his six sisters and three brothers, especially during the holidays and had fond memories of his years at Brevard Community College, Cocoa, FL 1968 – 1971, the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL 1971 – 1974 and Francis Marion University, Florence, SC 1976 – 1978. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mickey Rogers. Surviving are his brothers, Paul Rogers of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Keith Rogers of Southport, NC; sisters, Gladys (Sammy) Hodges of Greenville, NC, Norma Rouse of Florence, Sybil (Norm) Kennedy of Granite Falls, NC, Judy (Hayden) Hampton of Sevierville, TN, Gail Hill and Martha (Jerry) Blaton, both of Florence. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
