JOHNNY “DESI” DESMOND OATES FLORENCE, SC Johnny “Desi” Desmond Oates, 52, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Oates was born in Florence, SC, a son of Peggy Powers Oates Mayville and the late Johnny L. Oates, Jr.He was employed as a locomotive electrician for CSXT Railroad and was the owner of Oates Heating and Air.He received his Associates Degree from Florence Darlington Technical College and was a member of Mizpah Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny L. Oates, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Alice Powers Ward and Lonnie D. Powers; his paternal grandparents, Johnny L. Oates, Sr.and Marie Oates; and his uncle, Kenneth Poulas. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Peggy Powers Oates Mayville and Ronald Mayville, of Florence; his aunt and uncle, Uldine and Don Cox; cousins, Bradley & Terri Poulas of Florence, and Lorraine Poulas of North Carolina. Memorials may be made to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Attention: Patient Relations, 10109 East 79th Street, Tulsa, OK74133. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow at Thompson Cemetery.
