Johnny "Gene" Eugene Bunton

Johnny “Gene” Eugene Bunton, 69, of Quinby, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Duke Medical University. Mr. Bunton was born in Statesville, NC, a son of the late James Edgar Bunton and Kate McLain Bunton.He was a faithful member of Quinby Baptist Church and served as Deacon in the church.He coached little league football and baseball teams for the Florence Athletic Department.He was a past member of the South Carolina Walking Horse Association.He retired from Fiber Industries after thirty-five years of employment.Mr. Bunton was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Tamera Bunton Johnson. Surviving are his wife, Merlene Atwell Bunton, with whom he would have celebrated forty-nine years of marriage in June; his children, Tina Bunton Young of Florence and Tony Eugene Bunton of Quinby; five grandchildren, Kenneth Young, John Anthony Young, Walt Johnson, Tillman Johnson and Sullivan Johnson; his brother, Eddie Bunton of Rockwell, NC and his sister, Pat Shaver of China Grove, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2014,at Quinby Baptist Church.Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Quinby Baptist Church, 950 E. Ashby Rd, Florence, SC 29506. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
