Johnnie Dean “JD” Stepp, Sr., 95, of Florence, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, surrounded by his family. Mr, Stepp was a native of Bradley County, Tennessee, born a son of the late Willie Mae Barrett Stepp and Riley Seal Stepp.He worked with E. I. DuPont for thirty-two years as a mechanic, welder, planner and sheet metal extraordinaire before retiring in 1984.He was a faithful member of Palmetto Street Church of God for 59 years and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.Mr. Stepp served in various capacities at Church, including trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, treasurer, as well as ministering in the nursing homes and was a tireless supporter and worker in mission ministries. He comes from a family of pioneers dedicated to the service of the Lord and the Church of God.He was a man of faith and a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Lela Tanner and Edith Exley, and brothers, Leaburn Stepp and Cecil Stepp. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 74 years, Audrey Mae Davis Stepp; son, Johnny Dean Stepp, Jr. (Annette) of Greer, SC; daughters, Pat Springs of Florence, SC, Diane Burgess (Harry) of Seneca, SC, Brenda Rotan (Russell) of Summerton, SC, and Shirley Rowell of Centenary, SC; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Munn of Cleveland, TN and brother, Doyle Stepp (Lucille) of Brunswick, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Palmetto Street Church of God.Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
