John Adam Slice

August 11, 1943 — November 12, 2017

John Adam Slice, 74, passed peacefully on November 12, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House. John grew up in Chapin, SC and was a graduate of Chapin High School (1961). He and his wife Kay moved to Florence, SC in 1965. He started his own business selling plumbing, heating and air conditioning supplies and eventually went to work with Gateway Supply Company. He celebrated his first day of retirement with a hole in one at Traces Golf Course.For thirteen years he coached his son’s youth baseball team and in his last year of coaching they won the 1992 Dixie Youth World Series representing the State of South Carolina. John was an avid gardener and loved to drive around town passing out produce to friends. He was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran church and the Lutheran Men. John recently stated “he wouldn’t rewrite any chapter of his life.” He was a much beloved man and is survived by his wife of 52 years Kay Meetze Slice, son Adam (Allison) Slice, daughter Laura Slice, granddaughters Stella Grace and Annabelle Elizabeth Slice.John grew up with 10 siblings and is survived by sisters Ola Mae Ellisor, Pearl Cribb, Polly (EP) Roland along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care and compassion by the nurses and staff of McLeod Hospice. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 15, from 6 until 8pm at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, SC. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Thursday, November 16, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church followed by burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be sent to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1201 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC29501 or The Miracle League of Florence County, 710 S.
