John Perry Estridge

John Perry Estridge Florence, SC John Perry Estridge, 81, of Florence, died Sunday, December 19, 2010 in a Florence health care facility after an illness. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel. Entombment will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Mr. Estridge was born in Kershaw, SC a son of the late Joseph W. Estridge, Sr., and Alice Neal Estridge. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War having served as a military police officer which was one of his proudest accomplishments.He was a past member of Greenwood Baptist Church and in later years had attended New Testament Church at Parkland. He retired from Stone Container after 30 years.For many years he was a loving father and a devoted grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joseph W. Estridge, Jr. and Donald Estridge. Surviving are a daughter, Gloria E. Williamson of Florence; granddaughters, Amber Smith (Matt) Glaz and April Smith, both of Florence; former wife, Inez S. Hatchell of Florence; sister, JoLynn Ogburnof Kershaw; brother, Ferris Estridge of Lancaster; beloved friend and caregiver, Joyce Bissette and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 80459, Charleston, SC 29416. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
