John Franklin Garris

John Franklin Garris, 82, of Florence, SC, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025.

He was born on October 22, 1942, in Clarendon County, SC, the son of the late Dib Baxter Garris and Connie Johnson Garris. He was a member for 53 years at the Florence Baptist Temple where he served in various ways including teaching an adult Sunday School class, taking part in the bus ministry, and serving as an usher. He was also an avid outdoorsman, pursuing game and fish from Mexico to Northern Canada. He retired from Nucor Steel where he was a lead pulpit operator. He also proudly served his country in the National Guard. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Linda Stalvey Garris; sons, Jon Chadwick (Cheri Lynn) Garris, Andrew Kyle (Claussen) Garris and Christopher Ryan (Patti) Garris; grandchildren, Chandler Garris, Baylie Garris, Hunter Andrews, Carly Warren and Cameron Warren; and brothers, Mike (Diane) Garris and Jeff Garris.

The family will visit with friends from 10 AM to 11 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 South Irby Street.

Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the church.

Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request that any donations be made to the Frank Monroe scholarship fund care of the Florence Baptist Temple.
