Joanne Byrd Mathers

Joanne Byrd Mathers, 83, of Pawleys Island, SC, formerly of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. Mrs. Mathers was born in Astor Park, FL, the daughter of the late Redden P. Byrd, Jr. and Carrie Mae Lucas Byrd.She was an Assignment Clerk with Southern Bell and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.Mrs. Mathers was of the Lutheran faith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, James Alvin Mathers who passed away on October 6, 2006. Surviving are her son, Jon Cameron Mathers of Pawleys Island and his partner, as well as her caretaker, Jim Brady of Pawleys Island; step-son, Jimmy N. (Mitzi) Mathers, Sr. of Florence; step-daughter, Linda M. (Ernie) Yocom of Hollywood, FL; her brothers, Redden P. Byrd, III of Irmo, SC and Thomas Edward (Deborah) Byrd of Sapphire, NC; two grandchildren, Danielle M. (Brad) Hutto of Smyrna, GA and Neil (Megan) Mathers of Florence; and great-grandchildren, Perrin Hutto, Emory Hutto, Avin Mathers and Baby Hutto due in May. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Entombment will immediately follow.
