Jimmy Halley Bacot, 82, of Effingham, SC died July 18, 2016 near his home in the Elim community. Mr. Bacot was born in Effingham to the late Mr. Sanders Bacot and Mrs. Margie Lawhon Bacot.He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rhett; his son, Lee (Missy) Bacot; his daughter, Susan (Robbie) Lee, and his five grandchildren, Cody Bacot, Austin Lee, Houston Lee, Summer Bacot, and Denton Lee.Mr Bacot is also survived by his siblings, William (Rose) Bacot of Timmonsville, Sandra Baker of Savannah, and Ted (Judy) Bacot of Scranton. Mr. Bacot served his Country in the Army for two years and then for five years in the Army National Guard.After his military service, he came back home to continue farming.His involvement in the agricultural industry led to his work in the SC Farm Bureau, serving on the Board of the Mutual Insurance Company for 20 years, President of the County Farm Bureau, and serving as the State Director of the SCFB for 26 years.He also served 25 years as the Soil and Water Conservation Commissioner.Mr. Bacot was a lifelong member of Elim Baptist Church and served as the church moderator for 20 years. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
