Jessie Ruth Thompson

Jessie Ruth Cox Thompson, 87, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Mrs. Thompson was born the daughter of the late U. B. Cox, Sr. and Vera Cleo Byrd Cox.She was a lifelong dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Hazel Hatchell Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Prentice “Tilly” Thompson, Sr.; sisters, Gertrude Hatchell, Helen Gibbs, Theo Cox, Gladys Smith and Lucille McKain; and brothers, U. B. Cox, Jr., George Cox and Phillip Cox. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, Daniel Prentice Thompson, Jr. (Judy) of Florence; daughters, Janet “Jan” Thompson DeTemple (Richard) and Kim Thompson Register (Derrick), both of Florence; grandchildren, Daniel Prentice Thompson, III (Ashley), Elizabeth “Betsy” Thompson Braddock, Ashley Hahey (Adrian) and Sherri Register; great-grandchildren, Daniel Prentice Thompson, IV, Braden Tedder, Rylie Sperry and Ava Sperry and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family offers special thanks to McLeod Hospice and to Liz Lowery for their dedication to Mrs. Thompson.
