Jessie Florence Thompson Curry, 88, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Ms. Curry was born in Bennettsville, SC a daughter of the late Thomas Luther Thompson, Sr. and Ione Doreen Reardon Thompson. She attended Gospel Temple Worship Center and Immanuel Baptist Church. “Jessie, better known as “Momma, Grandma, and Granny” devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. All who knew her knew her love for the Lord, her family, & her fur babies - Pixie and Jack have been her companions for the last decade of her life. She defined “rock of the family” and made sure she was the well deserved focal point at every family event and holiday. She instilled her Christian beliefs and family values in her children and grandchildren. She was known for delicious biscuits, speaking her mind, and telling you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear- a quality her family will forever miss and value. She was truly a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend to all. Her bonus children Lynn Matthews, Scott Sturgeon, Shelia Jeffords, and so many more that I can’t name them all, can attest to that. Loving, caring, humble, feisty, blunt, sassy, and a firecracker are just a few words all who knew her would use to describe her. She was truly the strongest lady we all knew.” Love and dedication from her granddaughter and best friend, Kerri Marie Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, William “Mike” Thompson; brothers, Daniel Prentice “Tilly” Thompson, Sr. and Elmore Thompson. Surviving are her son, Clifford Wayne (Shauna) Curry, Jr. of Florence; daughters, Crystal Huffman and Dana (Joe) Wingfield, both of Florence; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Luther Thompson, Jr. of Florence, and many special nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Gospel Temple Worship Center, 3987 W Palmetto St, Florence, SC 29501, or to the Florence Area Humane Society, P. O. Box 4808, Florence, SC 29502. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Gospel Temple Worship Center with the service to be held at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
