JERRY BYRD FLORENCE, S.C. JERRY BYRD, 63, of Darlington, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 in a Florence hospital after an illness.Mr. Byrd was born in Dillon, a son of the late Rev. Robert Paul and Mary Emma Amoson Byrd. He had retired from Wellman Industries after 30 years. Mr. Byrd was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served 3 tours and earning the Bronze Star. He attended the Hartsville Pentecostal Holiness Church, and loved attending car shows.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Gerald Byrd, Jr. and by a grandson, Austin Owens.He is survived by his wife, Tina of Darlington; 2 daughters, Ashley (Ricky) Owens and Kristie (Steve) Smith, both of Florence; 2 sons, Tony (Lynn) Cassidy of Hartsville and Danny (Angie) McElveen of Florence; 1 brother, Gary (Pat) Johnson of Dillon, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Florence National Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
