JERROLYN "JERRY" WARD WHITEHEAD FLORENCE, SC JERROLYN "JERRY" WARD WHITEHEAD, of Florence, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in the McLeod Hospice House after an illness. Mrs. Whitehead was born in Florence County, SC, the twin daughter of the late Donnie Jasper Ward, Sr. and Ethel Sauls Ward.She earned her diploma as a social worker. She had been a staff member with the American Red Cross and was employed with the US Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia for 13 years.She was employed as a uniformed staff member at the US Naval Hospital in Key West, FL where she served as liaison between the military personnel, their commanding officers and the doctors and also served as counselor for the military personnel and their families for emergency leaves, financial assistance and hardship discharges.According to Mrs. Whitehead, this was the most rewarding position she held in her entire career.She also did volunteer work along with 58 others at the Naval Hospital.Mrs. Whitehead served with the Key West Police Department where she worked mostly with the detective division and was invited by the city manager to be Secretary to the City Manager, Mayor and Commissioner, which she held until she moved back to Florence. She was employed as Administrative Assistant at Oakdale Country Club, Florence for 24 years. She formed the Brownie Troop #101 where she served as Troop Leader for 20 Brownies. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Florence. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, US Naval Commander James L. Whitehead and a brother, Phillip Ray Ward. Surviving are her beloved daughter, Victoria "Vicki" Whitehead Bazen and her husband, Kenny, of Timmonsville; grandchildren, Kimberly Victoria Bazen Caples, Ashly Elizabeth Bazen, both of Timmonsville and Jessica Bazen O'Cain, of Florence; twin sister, Jacquelyn "Jack" Ward Watts of Effingham; brother, Don J. Ward, Jr. and his wife, Sandee, of Marietta, GA; several nieces and nephews and a grand-niece, Jacquelyn Stacy Parker of Florence and her special friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Entombment will follow in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
