Jeddie Wilson Luhrs

JEDDIE WILSON LUHRS, 78, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at McLeod Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Jeddie was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late Robert Edgar "Stroney" Wilson and Lida Doughty Wilson. She was a faithful servant, wife, mother and friend, choosing a lifelong calling to care for others tirelessly as a follower of Christ. Called "a Nurse's Nurse," Jeddie was a graduate of the McLeod Nursing School in 1959 and began her career working as a registered nurse at the old McLeod Infirmary as a staff nurse in obstetrics. She became a head nurse for the delivery room in 1975. Her work with mothers, infants and families were vital to the development of the Women's Services programs at McLeod Health for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1998. Jeddie served as a mentor for others in the McLeod healthcare environment, and established such outreach programs as the McLeod Resource Center, HealthCall, and home visits for new Moms. She was an active member of the church, having served as an organist and pianist at St. Johns Episcopal, Northgate Baptist and was a beloved Sunday School and Bible Study Teacher at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Her passion was ministry to others and leading others to Christ. She loved others unconditionally and met them at their place in life, leaving them forever changed for the better. Jeddie was preceded in death by her parents and by a son, Charles F. "Ricky" Luhrs, IV. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Charles Frederick "Rick" Luhrs, III of Florence; son, Robert Wilson Luhrs of Cross, SC; a daughter, Renee Luhrs (Neal) Kennedy of Florence, SC; six grandchildren, Whitney (Jonathan) Wilke, Katie Luhrs (Michael) Coit, Wil Luhrs, Sam Luhrs, O'Neal Kennedy and Abbey Kennedy; four great grandchildren: two sisters, Anne (Gene) McCutchen of Pennsylvania and Roberta (Phil) Stowell of Virginia and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church Building Fund, 524 S. Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC29501. Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
