JEAN ELLEN MANN GODWIN Florence, SC Jean Ellen Mann Godwin, 84, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at a local hospital. Mrs. Godwin was born in Appalachia, VA, a daughter of the late Rufus Mann and Margaret Wampler Mann. She moved to Kingsport, TN in 1936 and graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School.She met and married Jim Godwin in 1949 and then moved to Clemson, SC to be with him.They later moved to Florence County in 1955 where they lived out their remaining years.For many years she was a very active member of Mizpah Baptist Church.Many people witnessed her beautiful voice being in the choir and many attended the Sunday School Classes she taught for over thirty years.Mrs. Godwin was a blessing to everybody she met and a “wonderful, caring and giving person”. In addition to her parents, she is preceded, by her husband, James E. “Jim” Godwin, Sr., and her siblings, Pauline Mann Thompson, Frances Mann, Betty Mann Ball, Edwin Mann and Frank Mann. Surviving are her two sons, Edward “Ed” Godwin and Michael S. (Gail) Godwin, both of Florence, SC; four grandchildren, Jeanne Allen of Bremerton, Washington, Laura Godwin (Donald) Hildenbrand of Florence, James M. “Jamie” Godwin of Florence, and Anna C. (Ben) Godwin Mills of Auckland, New Zealand; four great-grandchildren, Sebastian Allen of Bremerton, Washington, Graycen Blackburn of Florence, Mitchell S. Godwin of Florence, and Lily A. Mills of Auckland, New Zealand; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mizpah Baptist Church, 233 N. Price Road, Florence, SC29506.
