Jean M. Buxton

Jean M. Buxton, 88, of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026.

She was born in Andrews, SC, the daughter of the late Ulysses McCants and Ruth Cook McCants. Mrs. Buxton was the last living member of the Buxton family to be a member at Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a family-oriented woman, who adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She worked for many years as a medical assistant for Dr. Michael Pavy. She enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers, and traveling to the beach.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, of 50 years, Maurice Buxton Sr.; siblings, Ernest McCants, Jimmy McCants, Renee McCants, Lib McCants Wilson, Kathrine McCants Moore, Julie McCants Reid, Carolyn McCants Hill, and Mary McCants.

Surviving are her sons, Mark (Shelia) Buxton Jr., of Florence, SC, and Mike (Nancy) Buxton, of Summerton, SC; daughter, Pam (Billy) Crew, of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Michelle Miller, Marc Buxton III, Kristen Buxton, Jessica Norwood, Brandon Collins, Dylan Crew, and Ally Crew; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to invite friends to the home of Mark Buxton, 3441 Claude Douglas Circle, Florence, SC 29501, prior to Tuesday, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in the new sanctuary at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.
