Janet Lynn Severance Matthews

August 25, 1954 — August 12, 2023

Janet Lynn Severance Matthews passed away peacefully at her home on August 12, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina to Earl Hudson and Sara Frances Knotts Severance on August 25, 1954. She attended Florence Darlington Technical College studying Dental Hygiene and worked as a Dental Hygienist for a short time. She then went on to work for several Physician’s offices through the years as she loved helping others. She loved God, her family, cooking, and pink flamingos. Cooking for her family and others brought her immense joy. She would always have her family’s favorite meals waiting and made a great whip cream pound cake. She enjoyed watching cooking shows as much as she loved cooking. She was not able to attend Church services, but she was able to participate in a weekly Bible Study. She enjoyed the fellowship and time with the ladies who became great friends and support for her during her illness. Janet had a great singing voice and loved singing while riding with her husband. As her health declined the almost daily drives brought her so much happiness. In addition, Janet was also blessed with a special brother and sisters-in-law on her husband’s side of the family. Janet is survived by her husband of 51 years, Don Olee Matthews; her children, Michelle Matthews Rosa (Chris); Melanie Matthews; Cynthia Matthews Earp; her four grandchildren, Davis and Mason Green, Madison and Nicholas Earp. She is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Severance Grant; Sandra Severance Snipes (Ricky); her brother, Billy Severance (Kay) along with several special Nieces and Nephews, Cousins and great friends. Janet is preceded in death by her parents and her Brother-In-Law, Ronnie Grant. A memorial service will be held at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home on August 19, 2023, at 2:00PM with visitation at 1:00PM. Her family and friends meant so much to her and she had many wonderful and thoughtful people who supported her during her many years battling cancer. Words cannot express how thankful we are for each and every one of you as we know that helped make each of her days with us a little brighter. You are all in our prayers as well. The family wishes to say a special Thank You to Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center, McLeod Oncology Doctor, Dr. Ravneet Bajwa along with the Nurses and Staff and Dr. Inderpal Singh.
