James McLeod Reed, Sr. Florence, SC James McLeod Reed, Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, 66, of Florence, passed away Saturday evening, July 26, 2014 at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Mr. Reed was born in Columbia, SC., son of Rev. John Osborne “J.O.” Reed, Jr. and the late Mary Duke McLeod Reed. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and especially gardening as he loved to share from his garden with friends and family. He had been employed with Weatherford’s Aluminum and with La-Z-Boy. He was preceded in death by his mother, his twin brother, John Osborne Reed, III, and a sister, Ellen Reed Fuseler. Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Jeanne Carter Reed; father of West Columbia; children, Gayle Reed Greene (Michael J. Bowen) of Florence, James McLeod Reed, Jr. of Florence, Stephen Carter Reed of Florence, Kimberly Reed Griffin of Kenbridge, VA; siblings, Peter D. (Anne) Reed of VA., Marilyn Reed (David) Thomson of Columbia, Philip D. Reed of Columbia; sister-in-law, Gwen D. Reed of Lexington; brother-in-law, Henry Fuseler of Columbia; 13 grandchildren,4 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; extended family, Gene A. Greene of Effingham, Tony A. Griffin of Durham, NC and Melissa C. Reed of Effingham. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 181 E. Evans Street, STE C-2, BTC-045, Florence, SC29506.
