SGT.1ST CLASS JAMES “PETE” MARION KIRBY, (US ARMY, RETIRED) FLORENCE, SC James “Pete” Marion Kirby, 85, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at a local healthcare facility. Mr. Kirby was born in Florence County, a son of the late Larry D. Kirby, Sr. and Ada Edith Kirby.He was a charter and faithful member of South Florence Baptist Church.Mr. Kirby was a veteran of the US Army and served his country for twenty-one years.He was the owner and operator of Pete’s Grocery Store from which he later retired and was then employed with S & W Manufacturing. Surviving are his wife, Annie Ruth Grant Kirby; his children, Cheryl Bass and Robert C. Lee, both of Florence; two grandchildren, Bridget Lee and Corey Dawkins; his sister, Frances Lee of Myrtle Beach and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2014, at South Florence Baptist Church.Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Veteran Honor Guard.
