James Marion Myers, Sr., 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Marion was born in Florence Co., SC a son of the late W.R. and Willie Mae Wiggins Myers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War.He was a faithful member of Elim Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He retired from DuPont after 32 years and from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a Bridge Inspector after 11 years of service. He was a member of the Swamp Fox Saddle Club, the Effingham Ruritan Club and an honorary member of Hub’s Grill. He had served as a youth baseball coach in Effingham. Surviving are his wife of 57 years,Belva J. McGee Myers of the home; children, James Marion (Jenny) Myers, Jr. of Denver, NC and Elizabeth Myers Matthews (partner, Joseph Arthur Nitz) of Charleston; 4 grandchildren, Jay Sheppard, Johnnie E. Matthews, III, Nicole Kulibert and Jessie Kulibert; special friends and family, Leif Henderson, Trinity Henderson, Wayne McGee , Janice Greene and Gary Myers; sister, Faye (Dexter) Lee of Florence; brother, Bill Myers of Florence. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.
