James Lee Mitcheltree

James Lee Mitcheltree, 75, of Florence, SC passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at MUSC Florence surrounded by his family. Mr. Mitcheltree was born in Sharon, PA, son of the late William Meade Mitcheltree and Elsie Jane Pantall Mitcheltree.He was a former resident of Connecticut and Florida and was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam.James retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services and had worked at Daytona International Speedway.He was a member of the Elks, had played Sr. Softball, and painted watercolors.He enjoyed traveling to visit family, playing cards, watching UCONN Basketball, the Boston Red Sox and NASCAR.He was a quiet man with a big heart and was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Mitcheltree, and sister, Carol Edmundson. Surviving are his son, Keith L. (Karen) Mitcheltree of Glastonbury, CT; grandchildren, Jack Mitcheltree and Olivia Mitcheltree; brother, Gary (Christine) Mitcheltree of Effingham and Ron Mitcheltree of Sharpsvill, PA; brother-in-law, Randy Edmundson, Erie, PA; sister-in-law, Linda Mitcheltree of Keosauqua, IA; nieces and nephews, Jessica Reed, Jeffrey Mitcheltree, Greg Mitcheltree, Melissa Boatwright, and Kay Cee Zelina. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 4, 2020 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.
