James "Je" Edward Haynes

James Edward “JE” Haynes, 97, of Florence, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at a local healthcare facility. Mr. Haynes was born in Florence County, SC, a son of the late Keen Rosier Haynes and Daisy Mae Woodrow Haynes.He worked for McLeod Regional Medical Center for twenty-two years in the maintenance department.Mr. Haynes was a member of Truth Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a deacon for many years, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.He was the oldest living member of the church. He is best known for forty-five years for his display of Santa’s Wonderland on Covington Street.Mr. Haynes enjoyed working in his yard, was an avid gardener and was a part of the Florence Rotary Beauty Trail. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Missouri Hughes Haynes; his son, Larry Lee Haynes; three grandchildren, Christopher Clarke, Jud Taylor, and Michelle Haynes; daughter-in-law, Dell Haynes and seven siblings. Surviving are his children, Bobby (Sandy) Haynes of Ocala, FL, Ronnie (Grace) Haynes of Little Rock, SC, Janice (Mike) Brian of Cleveland, TN, Ann (Kippy) Clarke of Atlanta, GA, Mickey Haynes, Jerry (Rhonda) Haynes, Patsy Taylor Powell (Mike) and Phyllis Haynes Edwards (Chip), all of Florence, SC; 28 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Elon Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Truth Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, P. O. Box 5011, Florence, SC29502.
