James Heflin Griffith Jr., 77, of Effingham, SC, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
He was born in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late James H. Griffith Sr. and Mary Louise Fallaize Griffith. Mr. Griffith, a disabled veteran due to Agent Orange, served his nation from 1968 to 1969, in the Vietnam War, in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was a Ham radio operator, a master woodworker, and an artist. Mr. Griffith was also an amateur historian who enjoyed gardening and farming. He was a long-time member of Effingham Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth “Betsy” Clyde Griffith.
Surviving are his brother, David Griffith; sister, Katherine Griffith (Vernon) Clapp; and friends, Henry Swink, Marion Swink, Tiffany Hayes, William J. “Lovie” Lee and Wilson Coward.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Florence National Cemetery with military honors.
