CMSgt. James Curtis “Shorty” Godfrey, 78, husband of Lynelle S. Godfrey, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born June 4, 1946, In Florence County, he was the son of the late Edgar C. Godfrey, SR. and Lillian Pace Godfrey.
After graduating McClenaghan High School, he married Lynelle and joined the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served his country for twenty years, retiring in 1985.
Following retirement from the Air Force, with his brother Buck, he owned and operated Carolina Jack and Lift Inc., where he dedicated his time and hard work, even while battling serious illness.
Shorty was a mason and past master of Amity 340 Lodge, and he enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing with his grandkids, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving includes his wife, Lynelle; his daughters, Brandy (Timmy) Williams, Kerry (Steve) Kueffler, Susan (Billy) Broach; and his son, Curtis (Kim) Godfrey; 10 grandchildren, Tim Willliams, Brad Carrigg, Kaila Kueffler, Taylor Broach, Bryce Broach, Hilton Broach, Lyla Broach, Brenden Godfrey, Collin Godfrey, Kamryn Godfrey and 7 great grandchildren, Brayden Cornielson, Benjamin Eldon Williams, Raelyn Hazel Williams, Bryson Scott Carrigg, Hunter Wyatt Carrigg, Kendall Beesley, and Elly May Broach; one sister, Algie G. Banks; two brothers, George E. “Buck” Godfrey and Jackie G. “Bubba” Godfrey; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Ramona G. Broach and Shirley G. Isenhower; and a brother, Edgar C. “Zeke” Godfrey, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the service to be held at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
