James Edward Garris

James Edward Garris, 85, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. He was born May 27, 1930 in Kinston, NC, a son of the late Bonnie and Daisy Garris. Mr. Garris was a US Navy Veteran and a retired carpenter. Survivors include his son, Michael Garris of Florence; a daughter, Tammy Garris Dennis of Darlington; brothers, Bobby Garris of Ayden, NC and Billy (Magdalene) Garris of Grifton, NC; sisters, Hazel Hoban of Virginia Beach, VA and Dot Coward of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Johnny Suggs, Jr. and Tina Marie (Michael) Watrous; and great-grandchildren Tori, Hayleigh, and Presley Watrous. He was preceded in death by his wife Ina Mae Garris; brothers Linwood, George, and Walter Garris; and sisters Mary Louise Garris, Bonnie Hover and Agnes Graham. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Florence National Cemetery. Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence is serving the family.
