James Carl Parker Sr.

James Carl Parker, Sr., 86, of Florence, peacefully passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Mr. Parker was the son of the late Clarence McKinley Parker, Sr. and Bessie Hatchell Parker. He was born and raised in Evergreen, SC and was a graduate of Tans Bay School.He was a veteran of the US Army and stationed in Germany from 1951 through 1953. In 1955, he married the love of life, Jeanette McGee Parker.He was a lifetime member of Evergreen Baptist Church in addition to being a lifetime member of Flintville Masonic Lodge.He was President of James C. Parker Trucking and Parker Transport.Mr. Parker loved the Atlanta Braves and avidly followed them every season. In addition to being a loving devoted husband, James Carl Parker, Sr. was a father and grandfather and was adored by all who came to know him. A lifelong resident of Florence County, “Mr. James” was the epitome of southern gentility and adored by his family, friends and employees. Kindness and generosity were his natural trademarks. His quiet strength and keen guidance were a blessing to many fortunate family members and friends. This true southern gentleman sincerely loved and led by example. He has shown us how to care, share and love. And now, after a wonderful, blessed life, he has earned his rest. May God Bless! Mr. Parker is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, C. M. Parker, Jr., Edward H. Parker, Sr. and Allard H. Parker. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James Carl Parker, Jr; daughter, Alisa Kay Parker McMillen (Mark); grandchildren, Mark Frank McMillen, Jr. (Lauren), Alison Parker McMillen, John James Parker, James Carl McMillen and Jackson Clark Parker; and siblings, Jack R. Parker, William R. Parker, Sr. and Kathryn Parker Hopkins. A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017, graveside at Mount Hope Cemetery with Masonic Rites directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evergreen Baptist Church, 6316 Pamplico Highway, Effingham, SC29541. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at his residence.
