Jacqueline "Jackie" Buddin Brown

November 13, 1927 — June 8, 2017

Jacqueline “Jackie” Buddin Brown passed away peacefully on Thursday June 8, 2017 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Mrs. Brown was born in Olanta, SC, the daughter of the late Eusell Floyd Buddin and Julian Ryan Buddin. After completing her education, she joined her husband, the late Willis Barnwell Brown, and was the owner/operator of Brown Hardware Company Inc. in Lake City, SC for thirty years. She was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church for sixty years and an active member of the Epps/Strickland Sunday School Class. She thoroughly enjoyed serving as treasurer as well as volunteering for thirty years with the Meals on Wheels Ministry. She was a dedicated member of the Grateful One Circle and an active member of the Tiara Garden Club, where she enjoyed sharing her passion and knowledge for nature and all plants, and was known for her “green thumb.” Mrs. Brown was first and foremost dedicated to her family and to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved family gatherings as well as traveling to visit with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her prayer was that her family would love the Lord and serve him as she had so faithfully done throughout her life. She has always been and will remain an excellent example of a southern lady and a Godly wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Brown Atkinson of Florence, her son, Berwyn Brown (Regina) of Lexington, her sister Elsie Buddin Prosser of Lake City, and a brother, Dr. Julian Ryan Buddin Jr. (Dottie) of Walterboro. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Kathryn Atkinson Stansbury (Joey) of Raleigh, NC, Dr. Rebekah Atkinson Martin (Ryan) of Zebulon, NC, Ryan Webb Atkinson (Hailey) of Lexington, Amanda Brown Fischbein (Jason) of Blythewood, and Whitney Blair Brown of Lexington, as well as five great grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Willis Barnwell Brown and her sister, the late Hazel Buddin Powell of Lake City. Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm, Sunday June 11, 2017 at The Lake City United Methodist Church with burial to follow at The Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 6-8:00 pm at Stoudenmire Dowling Funeral Home in Florence. Memorials may be made to The Lake City United Methodist Church general fund, 229 West Main Street, Lake City, SC29560 or to the church’s Meals on Wheels Ministry.
