Jack Wofford Lawson, Jr. Florence, SC Jack Wofford Lawson, Jr. of Florence, South Carolina went home to be with The Lord at the age of sixty on Tuesday, November 2nd.He is survived by his wife Paula Demetrious Lawson and three daughters, Mary Katherine Lawson of New York City, Charlotte Lawson Culotta and her husband Kevin of Wilmington, North Carolina and Jacqueline Christina “Jaycie” Lawson of the home, his mother, Vermelle Shealy Lawson of West Columbia, South Carolina and two brothers, Mark Edward Lawson (Pam) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Stephen S. Lawson (Lesley) of Lexington, South Carolina and sister-in-law, Mary Demetrious of Darlington, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Wofford Lawson, Sr. and his brother, John Michael Lawson. Jack was born March 25, 1951, to Vermelle Shealy Lawson and the late Jack Wofford Lawson, Sr. in Columbia, South Carolina.He graduated from Airport High School where he lettered in five sports and was recently inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.Jack attended the United States Military Academy at West Point to play football and was honorably discharged due to injury. He received his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of South Carolina. Jack was a loving husband, father, brother, and son.He was dedicated to his church, St. Luke Lutheran, where he taught the adult Sunday school class and sixth grade Confirmation classes. He served as President of the congregation, Chairman of Learning Committee, was commissioned in the initial Stephen Ministry class at St. Luke and was active in Lutheran Men in Mission.He was also very active in various civic and South Carolina Bar Association committees. Jack was in private practice in Florence for twenty years before joining the Twelfth Circuit Solicitors Office in 2000.In 2009, he was appointed as Chief Public Defender for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, a job which he loved and to which he was very devoted. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening from 6-8PM at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, South Carolina.Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend Jeffrey W. Shealy at St. Luke Lutheran Church on Friday at 2 PM with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery to follow.Memorials may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1201 Cherokee Road, Florence, South Carolina.
